Step 1: Visit Ledger.com/Start®
Go to Ledger.com/Start. This is the only official onboarding page provided by Ledger. It ensures you're using genuine products and verified software. Avoid downloading Ledger software or firmware from third-party websites.
At this page, select your Ledger device (Ledger Nano X, Ledger Nano S Plus, or Nano S) and click on “Get Started” to begin the guided setup process.
Step 2: Unbox and Inspect Your Ledger®
Upon receiving your Ledger device, make sure:
- The box is sealed and untampered.
- There is no pre-written recovery phrase included.
- The device has not been previously initialized.
Ledger devices should never come with a pre-set PIN or recovery phrase. If they do, contact Ledger support immediately.
Step 3: Download Ledger Live
Ledger Live is the official app for setting up and managing your device. Download it directly from Ledger.com/Start to avoid phishing or fake apps.

- Mobile (iOS, Android)
Once installed, launch Ledger Live and follow the instructions to initialize your device.
Step 4: Initialize Your Ledger Wallet
You will now:
- Create a PIN Code: This PIN protects access to your Ledger. Choose a 4–8 digit code. Never share it with anyone.
- Write Down Your 24-Word Recovery Phrase: This phrase is the only backup of your private keys. Write it on the Recovery Sheet provided and store it offline in a secure place.
- Verify Recovery Phrase: The device will ask you to confirm your recovery phrase to ensure it's been written down correctly.
Step 5: Connect Ledger to Ledger Live
After device setup, connect your Ledger wallet to the Ledger Live app:
- Choose “Connect a device” in Ledger Live.
- Verify that the device and app are communicating securely.
- Install crypto apps (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.) on the Ledger via Ledger Live.
You can now manage your assets directly from Ledger Live with your Ledger device securely approving all transactions.

With everything set up, you can begin:
